The Monsters rallied back from a two-goal deficit entering the third period to take the lead, but visiting Rochester had the final say with three goals in the final 10 minutes for a wild 7-5 victory Nov. 18.
The hosts’ comeback bid early in the third came via three goals in 7:01. Marcus Bjork started the flurry 44 seconds into the period, followed by Emil Bemstrom at 3:27 and Carson Meyer at 7:45 for a 5-4 lead.
But Zach Metsa tied it for the Americans at 10:38, and Riley Stillman put them ahead to stay at 14:53.
Kent Johnson logged a four-point night for the Monsters with a goal and three helpers.
Cleveland will travel to Charlotte for a pair of Thanksgiving week games with the Checkers on Nov. 20 and 22, both commencing at 7 p.m.
