Connecting for Kids has released its schedule of January programs.

The hands-on program designed to teach families how to use music to improve their child’s academic, motor, communication and social skills as well as behavior, the release said.

A board-certified music therapist will lead the program at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 12, and 10:30 a.m., Jan. 13, at the Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road.

The holidays are over, the house is a mess, schedules are hectic and emotions are running high, the release said.

Join Terri McNeely, a licensed independent social worker, of the Child and Family Counseling Center of Westlake, who will take you through a five-step mindfulness process to teach you how to regulate your and your child’s emotions and bring a sense of calm to your home, the release said.

This program is open to families and their children ages infant to 6, with or without concerns about development, the release said.

Caregivers will have a chance to get hands-on support, meet other families and connect to community resources while children play.

Led by an experienced early childhood specialist and Connecting for Kids staff, caregivers will have the opportunity to learn strategies for dealing with behavior challenges, communication concerns and sensory issues, the release said.

Registration is welcome but not required for the session that starts at 11 a.m., Jan. 25, in the Lakewood Family Room, 12525 Lake Ave. in Lakewood.
