The city of Lorain is launching a community engagement session scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Jan. 23, at the Lorain Public Library System Main Branch, 351 W. Sixth St. in downtown Lorain, to better hear from, inform and collaborate with residents, according to a news release.
In collaboration with Lorain County Public Health, Toole Design and community stakeholders, the event will utilize interactive activities and an ongoing survey to gather feedback and assess community sentiment regarding potential future transportation projects, the release said.
In 2018, the city of Lorain was the first in the state to create a five-year plan focusing on improving active transportation options in the city, according to the release.
This encompassed improvements to sidewalks, the installation of bike lanes throughout the city, new signage and other pedestrian-focused safety measures.
Fast forward five years, it is time for a plan update and renewed engagement with the public, according to the release.
This update serves to showcase the outcomes of the previous plan and seeks to understand the evolving needs of the residents.
“To enhance the overall experience for participants, we are pleased to offer childcare services and catered meals during the event,” the release said.
Additionally, a dedicated trolley service will be in operation from 5-9 p.m. ensuring convenient and free transportation to and from the venue, according to the release.
The trolley route will commence at the iconic Lorain sign downtown, proceeding west along West Erie Avenue, south on North Leavitt Road, east on West 21st Street and finally north on Broadway, completing the loop back to its starting point.
