Main Street Threads, 666 Main St. in Vermilion, is getting a new look and will be closed in January for renovations.
The boutique is located in the historic area of downtown and specializes in women’s, men’s, children and baby clothes, according to owner Jacqui Adkins.
Adkins, who also owns Mistakes on the Lake, 4542 Liberty Ave., said the boutique is undergoing renovations to upgrade the business and make for a memorable shopping experience.
“We’re going to open up that whole layout,” she said.
At the entrance of the store, the foyer area blocks the view from the outside in, and is too large of a space to not be used for products, according to Adkins.
The walls are going to be removed in the renovation, creating a more open space in the store, she said.
“We keep our door open all summer to make it more inviting, and you can’t see what we offer with the door open because it looks like a little room,” Adkins said. “We’re going to be actually able to expand some products there as well, because it’s gong to open up more space for retail.”
The boutique will add two fully functional dressing rooms, she said.
“We kind of made do, from our opening, with some makeshift dressing rooms, so we’re excited to actually have doors on our dressing rooms,” Adkins said.
After the renovations are complete, the boutique still will have its “feature wall,” which essentially is a wall used for art and customer interaction, she said.
This past Christmas, the wall was used as a photo backdrop for Santa.
In the summer, the wall has been used as a chalkboard with question prompts for customers to write their answers on, Adkins said.
Adkins also is a board member of Public Art Vermilion and said it’s important to her to incorporate art and design into the shopping experience at Main Street Threads.
“We’re hoping to do some fun collaborations with local artists on that wall as well,” she said.
Main Street Threads opened in June 2022 to provide clothing to the community that was not so “Cleveland specific” because clothing sold at Mistakes on the Lake is centered around Cleveland and Ohio, Adkins said.
That could go hand-in-hand with those styles and designs, and be available to everyone, she said.
“We always did pop-up markets throughout Ohio, and I really liked people to be able to see, feel, touch and have that shopping experience with our items,” Adkins said. “But, I didn’t necessarily want a store for Mistake on the Lake stuff.”
Items in Main Street Threads include Firelands and Vermilion high schools apparel, Pura Vida jewelry and Judy Blue jeans, as well as many more items, she said.
The renovations will provide customers with a more enhanced shopping experience where things can “flow a lot nicer” in the updated layout, Adkins said.
“We already have such a presence,” she said. “I hope to just keep building that presence and bringing something fun or new to Vermilion.”
