A Lorain County grand jury indicted a Sullivan man who was charged with his six OVI in Vermilion in addition to a variety of narcotics.
Elijah White, 43, was indicted on two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them, a fourth-degree felony; three counts of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; one count of tampering with evidence, a fifth-degree felony; possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to the indictment.
Vermilion police officers arrested White following a traffic violation at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 21 while he was driving a truck on Liberty Avenue, according to a police report.
White was alleged to have possessed fentanyl, marijuana, having an open container and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report stated.
When the officer approached White’s vehicle, he saw an open bottle of beer in the passenger seat, according to the report.
White told the officer he had “two beers,” but he failed to adequately perform field sobriety tests, the report stated.
White’s past OVI convictions occurred in 2000, 2006, 2017, 2018 and 2021, the report noted.
White has since been released from the Lorain County Jail, records show.
A future court date hasn’t been scheduled yet.
