Crop comments: Olmsted Falls remains at the top as the season heads into the new year. At the Wishes Can Happen showcase at Canton GlenOak, the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to seven with wins over West Branch (42-21) and Centerville (58-36). … Elyria Catholic participated in the showcase with Olmsted Falls. The Panthers lost to Centerville (69-30) and defeated Bishop Hartley, 51-35. They have won five of their previous six. … Avon Lake outscored Walsh Jesuit (52-19) and Warren Harding (59-20) by a combined 111-39, as it extended its winning streak to six games. The Shoregals have a big non-conference matchup against undefeated Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary on Jan. 3. … North Ridgeville won the Rocky River Travel Basketball Hoops Classic during the winter break. The Rangers won against Alliance Marlington (52-38) and Rocky River (44-39). … Amherst lost to Brunswick (57-48), then came back to defeat Fairview, 57-17. The Comets will face the Olmsted Falls and Avon Lake in their next two games. … Without All-Ohioan Olivia DiFranco, Midview knocked off Westlake at Berea-Midpark, 41-40. … Keystone and Columbia are the only two undefeated area teams left and will square off for first place in the Lorain County League on Jan. 3. The Raiders prepared with a 56-31 win over Division I Elyria and a 43-39 win against Division II Sandusky Perkins. Keystone won a home game against Cuyahoga Heights, 40-28. The Red Wolves are typically a contender in their Division VI district.
