Elyria to open cooling center Sept. 5 and 6

Elyria is opening a cooling station from 2-7 p.m., Sept. 5, and from noon to 7 p.m., Sept. 6, at the Thomas O. Shores South Recreation Center, 101 S. Park Drive, due to the high heat indexes, according to a news release.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 a.m., a chance of showers between 9 and 11 a.m., and a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. for Lorain County.

Also, conditions call for partly sunny skies, with a high near 84.

Showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the Weather Service.

On Sept. 6, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
