Elyria police release identity of fatal shooting victim

Citizens are urged to report any information about the ongoing investigation

The Elyria Police Department released the name of the 24-year-old man fatally shot Sept. 2 in the parking lot of the Chronicle Telegram.

Elyria police received a call regarding “an unresponsive male at 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the newspaper,” located at 225 East Ave. in downtown Elyria, according to a news release from the Elyria Police Department.

Isael Eduardo Rios was found to be unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound, the release stated.

Medical attention was provided.

Paramedics then transported Rios to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, according to Elyria police Lt. Bill Lantz of the Investigative Division.

“Regrettably, Isael Eduardo Rios was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” the release stated.

No further details were released as the Elyria Police Department is actively investigating the Rios’ death, according to the release.

The Police Department is urging anyone who may have information related to this case to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation, the release stated.
