Lorain police began a crackdown on criminal activities at the Mile Long Pier that have plagued the area to the point the Lorain Port and Finance Authority restricted hours for parking last week.
Just after midnight, Aug. 20, a disturbance at the pier, located at 301 Lakeside Ave., was reported to Lorain police.
As the officers arrived, a woman flagged them down about an ongoing fight, according to a Lorain Police report.
The officers found a 2018 Ford Fusion parked by the boat docks past the allowed parking entrance to the pier, the report stated.
A Grafton woman and a Lorain woman told police they were at the pier hanging out with their friend, a Lorain man, when a former romantic partner of his approached them, the report stated.
The report did not list ages of the people involved.
However, the former romantic interest told police she suspected the Lorain man was at the pier meeting two other females and she wanted to confront him, so she went to the pier to find them, the report stated.
The woman told police the Lorain man punched her in the head multiple times before getting in the car with the other women, the report stated.
The former romantic interest stated that as the other women and Lorain man attempted to leave, she was dragged by the vehicle.
The former romantic interest had no visible injuries, according to the report.
Officers were unable to obtain the man’s side of the story as he had fled the area prior to their arrival.
The woman declined to sign charges against the man, however, the Police Department filed domestic violence charges on her behalf, the report stated.
The Grafton woman and Lorain woman were cited for violating open hours of public parks and beaches, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, the report stated.
One was additionally charged for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report stated.
Officers received permission to search the vehicle the women were in, the report stated.
A small amount of cocaine was found concealed in a cigarette keychain lighter holder during that search, the report stated.
Neither woman admitted to knowing who the cocaine belonged to, the report noted.
The officers collected the contraband to be tested and destroyed, the report stated.
The Mile Long Pier, owned by the Lorain Port and Finance Authority, has become a “hotspot” for criminal activity this summer resulting in new restrictions the port authority enacted a week prior.
In addition to the restricted parking hours at the pier, officials are adding security cameras.
The decision was made after a man was shot Aug. 5 and another shooting incident that \ week where at least 12 shots were fired while a large crowd was at the pier, authorities have said.
