Elyria police: Employee charged after allegedly assaulting co-worker

The Elyria Police Department arrested an employee of a gasoline station Aug. 19 after the man reportedly assaulted and threatened a co-worker, according to a police report.

A 53-year-old North Olmsted man was arrested by Elyria police after he allegedly assaulted the co-worker at Gas Go Gas Station, at 237 Lake Ave.

Police first were told by the caller at 12:37 a.m. there was a robbery in process and the armed suspect still was on scene.

When officers arrived at the gas station, they met with two employees who told them that the North Olmsted man had a firearm and had assaulted one of them, according to the report.

The two men came to a disagreement when the North Olmsted man headbutted the victim in the nose, the report stated.

The victim told police the other man proceeded to lift his shirt above his waist band revealing the handle of a firearm and told the victim if the police were called that he would shoot him, the report stated.

When questioned by police, the North Olmsted man said the victim “got in his face” while he was sweeping near the pumps because the North Olmsted man apparently was talking trash about him, but wouldn’t divulge the details of the conversation, the report stated.

The North Olmsted man told  officers he didn’t have a weapon and allowed them to search his vehicle; no firearm was located, the report stated.

The North Olmsted man was charged with assault and transported to the Lorain County Jail to await court proceedings in Elyria Municipal Court.
