• The 2023 season could not have started any better for the Lorain football team.
On Aug. 18, the Titans traveled to the east side and dominated Brush, 35-7, in their season opener.
It’s been a while since Lorain has enjoyed a victory so lopsided. Not since Week 10 in 2021 — when it throttled Shaw, 44-7 — has Lorain won in such a dominant fashion.
Running back John Salamon scored on a short run in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead, and the Titans were on their way. They led, 14-0, after the first quarter, and then, 28-0, at halftime en route to the impressive victory.
Lorain hosts crosstown rival Elyria on Aug. 25.
• Elyria hosted an Ohio power from down south in Cincinnati Princeton and the Pioneers were on the opposite end of a 41-7 defeat.
Larioc Baker’s 47-yard touchdown gave Elyria a 7-0 lead in the first quarter but from there it was all Princeton, which led, 28-7, at halftime.
• Running back Jake Bova ran for two touchdowns in the second half to help host Avon Lake to a 19-14 win over Strongsvillle.
A defensive touchdown by Strongsville gave the Mustangs a 14-13 lead with 10:51 remaining in the game but the Shoremen answered quickly, capped by Bova’s second TD of the game.
Strongsville’s offense tried to respond but the Avon Lake defensive held and took over with 3 minutes to play in the game.
Avon Lake’s next game is Aug. 24 at Benedictine.
• Columbia — one season removed from a record-setting 13-1 season — started 2023 strong with a 41-6 win over visiting Independence.
Columbia’s next game is Aug. 25 at Fairview.
