Outlook

Oberlin is on its third coach in three years, and Mark Campo is the new guy for the job. He’s had success as a head coach in the past, and he might be what the Phoenix need to get over their recent struggles. This is a young group that has been committed to becoming a successful football team and is constantly improving.

Player to watch

Tommy Boyer returns in his starting linebacker spot, and he will be involved offensively too at wingback. The junior played a lot last year and has emerged as one of the leaders on this team. He brings a spark to the Phoenix.

Underclassman to watch: Sophomore quarterback Drew Walter is back after starting as a freshman. He went through the tough transition period of joining the varsity as a young player. Despite having a new coach and playbook, he’s starting to come into his own as a leader on this team.

Bottom line

IF: This young team can stick together and get better in 2023, THEN: Oberlin will have the pieces for a bright future.
