At its October meeting, the Erie County Community Foundation Board of Directors awarded $194,705 in charitable grants to over 30 eligible Erie County nonprofits, schools and municipalities, according to a news release.
Notable among these grants are a number of projects intended to further Erie County’s social and economic impact, including support for American Red Cross North Central Ohio’s Erie County Blood Drives; Bowling Green State University’s Keep McBride Arboretum Beautiful and Engaging project; Cancer Services of Erie County’s Transportation for Erie County Cancer Patients; city of Sandusky Fire Department’s Roper Lock Box Initiative; city of Sandusky Parks and Recreation Department’s Eclipse 2024.
The projects also include: Total Eclipse of Sundusky; Hospice of the Western Reserve’s In-Home, Pre-Hospice Palliative Care for Erie County Seniors; Margaretta Local Schools’ New Perspectives at Margaretta High School; OHgo’s Project Happy; Second Harvest Food Bank’s Food Distribution to Erie County; and others.
The Erie County Community Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff are proud to grant funds for these and other diverse projects intended to build community and address Erie County’s most pressing needs, according to the release.
The Erie County Community Foundation focuses its efforts on several priority areas, including: removing barriers to transportation; providing job training or skill development programs that specifically address Erie County’s workforce gaps; creating new opportunities for employment
supporting Erie County’s children – from improving access to child care to providing creative and experiential education opportunities; broadening access to mental health and addiction services; creating a community without stigma for those seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment; providing creative educational and experiential opportunities for children that will help meet current academic standards.
Other area efforts on several priority areas include: encouraging strong physical and mental health, and/or offer means of artistic expression
ensuring a healthy and vibrant Lake Erie, and improving public accessibility to it and its waterways; providing access to healthy, highly nutritive food for all; supporting seniors and their caregivers; creating neighborhoods that thrive; and addressing poverty through hunger and homelessness relief, case management, and educational forums.
Now in its 28th year, the Erie County Community Foundation has awarded more than $8 million in community grants to organizations in Erie County, according to the release.
For organizations and individuals wishing to create a lasting impact in Erie County through charitable giving, the Erie County Community Foundation will offer another round of grants next spring, with an application deadline of Feb. 1, 2024.
