The Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety awarded $55,000 in federal traffic safety funding to Lorain County Public Health for federal fiscal year 2024, according to a news release.
Since 1989, Lorain County Public Health has conducted the Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition (SCC) to reduce injuries and deaths on Lorain County roads, the release said.
“We’ll continue to work with partners in the SCC, and use the grant funds to advance traffic safety efforts,” said Mark Adams, Lorain County Public Health commissioner in the release. “Together, we’ll work to save lives and prevent injuries by promoting seat belt use, sober driving, motorcycle safety and focused driving messages and campaigns.
Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition members represent businesses, law enforcement, health care agencies, local and state engineering offices, insurance agencies and Lorain County residents, according to the release.
An additional component of the Safe Communities Coalition is the Lorain County Fatality Review Committee, which reviews fatal vehicle crashes in the county to identify trends and develop possible countermeasures and interventions to prevent future crashes, the release said.
