The Lorain County OVI Task Force announced that OVI checkpoints will take place between 7 and 10 p.m. May 11 in Grafton and Sheffield townships, according to a news release.
Checkpoint locations are on state Route 57 and state Route 254, the release said.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by a federal grant, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers, the release said.
In 2022, there were 20 fatal crashes in Lorain County with 11 OVI related, according to the release.
So far this year, three fatal crashes occurred in the county with one OVI related, the release said.
“If you plan to consume alcohol, please designate a driver or make other arrangements before you drink,” the release said. “Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
