After doing everything that there is to do in Division II, Bay’s own RJ Sunahara has leveled up.
On May 11, Sunahara announced on Twitter that he has committed to the University of Georgia to join the Bulldogs’ heralded transfer portal class.
“Straight to work. Go Dawgs!,” he said.

The 2022-23 Division II Player of the Year led Nova Southeastern to an undefeated national championship. Sunahara averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season.
After entering the transfer portal on April 29, Sunahara picked up heavy interest from an abundance of high-major Division I schools. He scheduled three visits to Georgia, Notre Dame and West Virginia, but canceled the latter, which was supposed to be this weekend. Despite his father coaching the volleyball team and his brother playing football for the Mountaineers, he chose to become a Georgia Bulldog.
Sunahara is the fifth transfer portal pickup for Georgia this offseason along with Noah Thomasson (Niagara), Russel Tchewa (South Florida), RJ Melendez (Illinois) and Jalen Deloach (VCU). The Bulldogs also bring in four high school recruits with Silas Demary Jr., Blue Cain, Dylan James and Mari Jordan.
In coach Mike White’s first season after coming from Florida, the Bulldogs went 16-16. Sunahara will try and help guide Georgia to its first NCAA Tournament since 2015.
During that time, he was still a Bay Rocket, where he led the program to its first regional title in 2016.
