Classes at Southview Middle School, 2321 Fairless Drive, and Helen Steiner Rice Elementary School, 4500 Tacoma Ave., will resume March 10, according to a news release from Lorain City Schools the afternoon of March 9.

The district announced the morning of March 9 that classes at the schools were closed due to a water main break in the area that disrupted water service to the buildings.

Southview Middle will return with normal operation, the release said.

Helen Steiner Rice will be in session, but under a 24-hour boil alert, according to the release.

“As such, we will provide plenty of bottled water for our students and staff, and Aramark will prepare a limited lunch menu,” the release said. “Students will not have access to water fountains. Handwashing and bathroom facilities will not be impacted.”

The city was working to resolve the issue, according to the release.

The school district had asked parents to check their emails, district website and Facebook page for updates for the rest of the week.

City officials sent out an alert the morning of March 9 that residents who live on Tacoma Avenue from Goble to Fairless drives are under a boil advisory because of the water main break.
