Avon High School junior Sophie Ng, 17, was chosen as a winner of the Contemporary Youth Orchestra‘s Season 28 Concerto Competition, according to a news release.
Sophie, who has been playing the violin since fifth grade, now will have the opportunity to play a solo from English composer Vaughan Williams‘ “The Lark Ascending,” in concert with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra on March 4 at the Tri-C Metropolitan Campus Auditorium, 2900 Community College Ave. in Cleveland, the release said.
According to Erin Kipp from the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, the Concerto Competition is an annual event and many students from across Northeast Ohio participate in it.
Judges this year were three professional musicians, the release said.
The rest of the March 4 concert will feature works by Soon Hee Newbold, a renowned composer, violinist, pianist and conductor, according to the release.
Soon Hee will conduct her own pieces, the release said.
