Bay’s Nina LaRosa was crowned a state champion Feb. 24 at the Division II swimming championships Feb. 24 in Canton.
The senior won the girls 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 2.57 seconds over second-place finisher Claire Cox of Marlington. LaRosa’s time was a second faster than Cox’s 1:03.96. LaRosa also had the fastest time in the preliminary rounds.
LaRosa was All-Ohio in the 100 butterfly, as she finished sixth with a time of 58.18.
In the boys competition, Rocky River was fifth in the team standings with 114 points.
The following area swimmers and divers earned All-Ohio honors at the D-II swimming and diving championships Feb. 21 and 24 in Canton:
• Bay’s Charles Vatolin was fifth in the diving competition with a score of 378.30. Also placing in the competition was Rocky River’s Tobias Rastetter (12th, 311.20).
• In boys 200 free, Rocky River’s Michael Esdon was third with a time of 1:4254. In boys 500 free, Esdon was fourth in 4:40.37.
• In boys 50 free, Rocky River’s Matthew Stankivicz finished sixth in 21.52. Stankivicz was also 10th in boys 100 free in 47.49.
• In boys 200 free relay, Rocky River placed fourth in 1:27.12. Relay members were Phillip Carter, Stankivicz, and Matthew and Michael Esdon.
• In boys 400 free relay, Rocky River was fourth in 3:12.33. Relay members were Micheal Esdon, Carter, Nart Yilmasz and Stankivicz.
