Amherst plans to come alive once more for the holiday season this December with the return of Miracle on Main Street, the Christmas Parade and Jingle Bell Bus.
The Miracle on Main Street parade will take place Dec. 2.
“We will have people from all over including the schools, businesses, ODOT, the Metroparks and more,” said Main Street Amherst’s Teresa Gilles, who is leading the organizing.
The parade has long been a tradition in Amherst, and this year because of the parade’s size, it will stop off from the Amherst High School parking lot.
“It’s been going on for longer than I can remember,” says Gilles. “And every year it continues to grow.
“In years past we would start at the library and Board of Education parking lots, but because we have so many people this year, we moved to the high school parking lot,” she added.
Main Street is looking for volunteers and sponsors to help with the parade.
“We will have sponsors from $50 to $400 for the parade which will go to charities as well as back into Main Street Amherst so we can continue events like these,” Gilles says.
The parade starts at 6 p.m. and will end at Town Hall with hot cocoa. From there, guests can make their way over to Main Street Amherst, 255 Park Ave, for more treats as well as photos with Santa Claus. For anyone wanting to participate in the parade, Gilles asks that they go to Mainstreetamherst.org.
In addition to Miracle on Main Street, Amherst will also see the return of the Jingle Bell Bus tours.
“Because Lolly the Trolley went out of business, we didn’t want that to be the end of our tours of Amherst,” says Gilles. “Thankfully Amherst schools has graciously allowed us to use school buses for guests to take around Amherst and look at Christmas lights.”
Jingle Bell Bus will happen Dec. 15 and tickets are on sale now at Main Street Amherst. It is $5 per person, and tickets must be purchased in person at Main Street.
