Something spooky is lurking the halls and offices of Lorain County Community College as many have prepared for the Halloween season.
Students, staff, faculty and guests can feast their eyes on creepy crawlies, bats, pumpkins and witches covering the doors to many offices in both the Campana Center and College Commons Center of the main campus, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria.
As for the idea behind these eerie sites, staff say it’s all in the name of good cheer and creepy delights.
According to Kateryna Karelina, a staff member in LCCC’s marketing and president of their PTK chapter, “I decorated my offices as a mood booster to make others smile when they come in.”
The many decorations, all handmade by Karelina, cover the doors of both the Unity Lab in the Campana Center as well as the doors into Arts and Humanities in the Stocker building.
“I love the fall festive moods because the offices can feel kind of empty, and this changes that,” she said.
And other offices also are in the fun.
In the NEOLaunch NET offices, guests can be greeted by painted pumpkins and a giant bowl of candy, courtesy of the staff.
“They were painted by interns four years ago as a way to make the office more festive,” said Matt Poyle, project director. “The best part is they are not real, so they are really eco-friendly and can be used again and again.”
The giant candy bowl in the offices also serves as a morale booster, inviting guests to take their chance at getting a “clawhand” full of candy to enjoy.
The bowl made its return Oct. 22 during the Campana Open House at the college, where children and adults indulged in the fun.
Across the hall, the Fab Lab joined the fray, with decorations of Halloween glam for the open house as well.
According to staff member Natalie Knight, “we normally don’t have time to decorate so being able to do so this this year, we definitely jumped on the opportunity.”
The college plans to keep the fall-oriented decor up throughout Thanksgiving with a gradual shift to Christmas coming in late November.
