Upon its reopening Jan. 16, the Oberlin Heritage Center, 20 W. Vine St., will become an official participant in Museums for All, a signature access program for low-income families to have increased accessibility to high-quality museum learning resources, according to a news release.
The program is through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Association of Children’s Museums.
The Oberlin Heritage Center hopes this program will encourage everyone to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits, according to the release.
Museums for All is part of the Oberlin Heritage Center’s broad commitment to include and welcome all audiences, the release said.
The program supports those receiving food assistance benefits to receive free admission for up to four people to the Oberlin Heritage Center, according to the release.
This includes access to the Oberlin Heritage Center’s regularly offered guided and self-guided tours of its historic buildings as well as its warm weather history walks.
Children younger than 18 years of age visiting with families always are free, according to the release.
Similar free and reduced admission is available to eligible members at more than 1,200 museums across the country, including several in Northeast Ohio, according to the release.
Museums for All helps expand access to museums and to raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities, the release said.
Participating institutions include art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums and more.
