With the holiday season upon us, the Lorain County Recorder’s Office is informing residents about the reality of property fraud and to provide guidance on safeguarding their assets, according to a news release.
Property fraud, though a legitimate concern, is not as prevalent as some may be led to believe by various commercials on television or social media, the release said.
Unfortunately, it has become a talking point for people seeking to capitalize on the fears of the public, according to the release.
“The Lorain County Recorder’s Office emphasizes that while no one can prevent individuals from engaging in illicit activities, there are proactive steps residents can take to protect their property interests,” the release said.
To alleviate concerns, the Lorain County Recorder’s Office invites residents to visit www.loraincountyrecorder.gov.
“Here, individuals can perform a comprehensive search to review any records associated with their name,” the release said. “This simple yet effective measure empowers residents to stay informed about their property documentation.
“As part of ongoing efforts to enhance security, the Lorain County Recorder’s Office encourages residents to take advantage of their free AlertMe program. By signing up on the website, individuals can receive timely notifications via text and email about any activities recorded under their name. This proactive approach enables residents to detect and address potential issues promptly.”
The Lorain County Recorder’s Office reassures residents that while property fraud is a concern, staying informed and taking preventative measures can significantly reduce the risk, the release said.
