Lorain County Public Health again is seeking applicants for its Healthy Places Grants, according to a news release.
The health department aims to fund projects that will build healthier communities and make a long-lasting impact for health, the release said.
Lorain County Public Health will award a total of $50,000, according to the release.
Any nonprofit, government agency or community organization that serves Lorain County can apply at LorainCountyHealth.com/HealthyGrants for up to $10,000, the release said.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 19, 2024.
“(Lorain County Public Health) recognizes that often, it’s the boots on the ground that have the best ideas for improving the health of the community,” said Mark Adams, Lorain County Public Health commissioner in the release. “We especially encourage small nonprofits to apply, particularly if they’ve never been awarded a Healthy Places Grant before.”
Proposed projects should change the physical landscape to improve health in a public space, according to the release.
Examples include walking trails, bike racks, lighting, community art, community gardens and outdoor fitness equipment, the release said.
Staff at Lorain County Public Health will offer technical assistance, both through the application process, and during project implementation, according to the release.
The health department will notify awardees on March 4, the release said.
All grant projects must be completed by Dec. 31, 2024, the release said.
Since 2015, Lorain County Public Health has awarded 48 Healthy Places Grants totaling a $750,000 investment in Lorain County, according to the release.
Most projects continue to have an impact on the health of Lorain County today, the release said.
