Oberlin man dies in vehicle wreck Sept. 2 in New Russia Township

A 24-year-old Oberlin man died as a result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash Sept. 2 in New Russia Township, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Elyria Post.

Caleb Hughley was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz west on Albrecht Road near near Bechtel Road at 10 p.m. when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned multiple times, the release stated.

Hughley, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Mercedes-Benz, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol stated.

A passenger in the Mercedes-Benz, was a 23-year-old from Elyria, was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, according to the release.

The passenger was transported by Central Lorain County EMS to University Hospital Elyria Medical Center, the release stated.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, Central Lorain County EMS, South Amherst Fire Department, Lorain County Coroner’s Office and Vaughn’s Towing, the release stated.

The crash remains under investigation, the release stated.
