Crop comments: While Avon takes the top spot for the moment, the Eagles are neck and neck with Bay, which was heavily considered for the top spot. The Rockets lost two All-Americans, but still have several talented pieces all across the field, from Milo Hignett to Nick Schneiderman. … North Ridgeville checks in at No. 3, with a matchup against No. 5 Olmsted Falls on Aug. 30 serving as a big SWC game in the early slate. … Amherst has been solid out of the gate, but they’re surrounded by several top squads in their own conference, and all reside in the top five. Those head-to-head games will be a good barometer of their progress. … Checking in at No. 6 and No. 7 are Elyria Catholic and Rocky River. The Panthers have definitely stepped up a level compared to a year ago and nudge ahead of a GLC rival … Closing out the first crop are Westlake, Keystone and Lake Ridge.
