A barge called The Maumee arrived in Lorain on the Black River the evening of Aug. 28 to unload stones across from the 14th Street dock.
The Maumee departed Lorain shortly after 7 a.m., Aug. 29.
Pat Morrisson, a retired business owner and community activist, monitors barges as they come into Lorain to drop off cargo.
“Lorain is sitting on a gold mine as far as tourism is concerned with a lake and a river,” Morrisson said. “There are lots of cities that would give their eyes and teeth for what we have.
“And, I think we should use freighters as our theme, at least to start. And we need to look at getting the Roger Blough, which is currently in Conneaut, and may be taken a part soon.
“We need to get that freighter — it has a lot of history here in Lorain — and build an indoor museum around it, like the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.”
