On the pitch: Amherst got off to a hot start with a 10-0 win over Toledo Central Catholic in the season opener. Coleman was the catalyst, posting a hat trick with three goals and adding an assist.

Off the pitch: Nicknamed ‘Kam’ by her teammates, Coleman enjoys watching her brother’s basketball games, eating at Condado and watching “Grey’s Anatomy” in her free time.

Ben Montgomery

Brookside>>Football

Senior>>RB/WR/S

On the field: Brookside started right with a 35-0 win over Brooklyn. Montgomery did it all on both sides of the ball. He had 130 yards rushing on 16 carries for a touchdown, and he had three receptions for 41 yards and a second score. Defensively, he had four tackles, two pass breakups and an interception.

Off the field: Montgomery goes by “Showtime” for a nickname. His favorite sports memories are playing with his brother during his freshman and sophomore years. His favorite hobbies are hanging out with his friends and playing video games. His favorite sports team is the Browns, favorite food is steak and favorites to watch are “Wolf of Wall Street” and “Naruto.” J.Cole and Kanye are his favorite artists.

Julian Patti

Rocky River>>Football

Senior>>Quarterback

On the field: In the season opener, Patti led an impressive Rocky River air attack. In a high-scoring 55-42 victory over Harvey, the senior quarterback went 22-for-33 passing for 421 yards and five touchdowns.

Off the field: Patti’s favorite sports memory is throwing an 89-yard touchdown pass against Elyria Catholic last season. His favorite sports teams are all of the Cleveland teams. He enjoys golfing and listening to hip-hop.

Zach Shackelford

Keystone>>Football

Junior>>Quarterback/Safety

On the field: In a 41-0 shutout at Northwestern, Shackelford went 8-8 passing for 93 yards and carried nine times for 106 yards and three touchdowns. He affected all three phases of the game, including a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown on defense and a 60-yard punt return touchdown on special teams.

Off the field: Shackelford goes by “Mike,” and his favorite sports memory is finishing third at the state track meet in the 4×400. He enjoys playing Siege with his friends, and his favorite movie is “Radio,” and favorite TV show is “One Piece.” He is a New England Patriots fan and his favorite subject is math.

Sophia Sindelar

Rocky River>>Soccer

Junior>>Forward

On the pitch: Sindelar had a match for the ages in Rocky River’s 9-2 win over Avon Lake. She set the school record with six goals and 14 total points in the contest. For good measure, she added two assists to her incredible performance.

Off the pitch: Sindelar’s favorite sports memory was her winning penalty kick at the ECNL semis with her club team. She enjoys paddle boarding with friends, watching “Friends” and listening to Taylor Swift. Her favorite athlete is Sophia Smith, favorite food is sushi from Sakana and favorite subject is science.

Dylan Sowers

Olmsted Falls>>Golf

Senior

On the course: Sowers defeated a strong field at the Keystone Invitational to win by one shot with a one-under 71. The next day, he posted a 77 for a top-five finish at Windmill Lakes. After winning the Keystone Invite at Grey Hawk Golf Club, he returned there to shoot back-to-back 39s to help the Bulldogs defeat Elyria and North Ridgeville in SWC matches.

Off the course: Sowers is uncommitted so far for college but plans to study business or engineering. His favorite sports memory is snapping the 23-year drought to help Olmsted Falls win the SWC golf title last season. He was also nominated by his teachers and classmates as the Underclassmen Athlete of the Year as a junior. The recognition was special to him not only for his athletic achievements but for his work in the classroom and community.

Charlie Steinmetz

North Ridgeville>>Football

Junior>>H-Back/Tight end

On the field: North Ridgeville scored 41 unanswered points in a big 41-7 win over North Olmsted in Week 1, and Steinmetz played a big part in that. He carried the ball only five times, but piled up 95 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 118 yards and another score.

Off the field: Playing a great game against North Olmsted is one of Steinmetz’s favorite sports memories. He enjoys fishing, rooting for the Browns and Ohio State, and watching Star Wars and “Breaking Bad.” His favorite food is steak and favorite subject is math.

Matthew Walker

Amherst>>Cross country

Sophomore

On the course: After losing one of his shoes 800 meters into the race, Walker put on an incredible performance at the OHSAA Preview Meet in Obetz. His time of 17:27 was over a 45-second improvement from his PR from last season as a freshman, and over two minutes off his finish at the same meet. He was the fifth Comet to cross the finish line, and he helped the team get second place out of 41 teams at the big event.

Off the course: Walker’s best sports memories are being with his teammates in and outside of practice and meets. He enjoys learning about world history and rooting for Michigan Wolverines football.
