Back-to-School Bash set Aug. 27 for Firelands Local Schools

With school districts starting their academic years, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 9457 Baumhart Road in Amherst, is the host location for a two-hour event Aug. 27 which will provide children with backpacks filled with necessary supplies, according to a news release.

Children also will have an opportunity to enjoy a bouncy-house, face-painting and other fun activities, the release said.

Jointly hosted with Good Knights of Lorain County, there will be several social service organizations sharing resources to help families, according to the release.

Families within the Firelands Local Schools can attend between 1 and 3 p.m., the release said.

Free backpacks will be available on a first come, first served basis, according to the release.

In 2023, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary, the release said.

Roger Dorsey, president, founder and executive director of Good Knights of Lorain County, is the pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

The church holds services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays and 6 p.m. Wednesdays, according to the release.

A Sunday school program is available, as well as a nursery for toddlers.

Good Knights is a nonprofit  serving low-income families in Lorain County through an empowerment model aiding with dignity, the release said.

Dorsey founded Good Knights in fall 2020.
