A Lorain woman was beaten so severely over an alleged debt, she was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where she was treated for facial fractures, police said. Harrison Shaffer III, 27, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault Oct. 30 for an attack that left a 27-year-old woman with several facial injuries, according to Lorain Police Officer Corey Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks responded to Shaffer’s home at 4132 Fulton Ave. at 2:19 a.m. for a welfare check when he was flagged down by two witnesses who said the woman had been assaulted by an unknown male. The officer met the woman on the 4100 block of Woodward Avenue where she stated that around midnight Shaffer came to her home and accused her of stealing $200 from him. Shaffer allegedly then began beating the woman, leaving her unconscious in her living room. The woman, whose face was swollen and covered in dry blood, suffered a cut lip and a black eye which was closed shut, Middlebrooks said. The officer located Shaffer at his home and observed scratches to his face and chest. When asked, Shaffer said the woman arrived at his home, and appeared intoxicated and badly beaten. Shaffer said he walked the woman home where she assaulted him unprovoked. The woman was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center and later flown to Cleveland Metro for further treatment for what
Middlebrooks said was facial fractures suffered ‘as a direct result of the assault by Shaffer.’ Shaffer was transported to Lorain City Jail where he is being held without bond. He was scheduled to appear in Lorain Municipal Court Oct. 30, according to jail officials.
