LORAIN – A 13-year-old is accused of stabbing her stepfather after a dispute July 31.
Officers were called to the 2500 block of East 37th Street at 6:30 p.m. regarding a man who was stabbed, a Lorain police report said.
The 41-year-old Lorain resident told police he was in his bedroom laying down when his wife’s 13-year-old daughter and her friend entered the room. The stepdaughter began yelling and arguing with him.
According to the report, she told him to get the (expletive) out of the house and began spitting on him. When he got off the bed, the girl began to kick and punch at him.
The man said he pushed her away from him multiple times and made his way for the side door entrance of the residence, the report said. He also said he exited the house with his stepdaughter still assaulting him.
When he attempted to go back into the home, the girl – who was on the other side of the door – was pushing it closed, according to the report. He began to push on the door and opened it partially when the girl grabbed a steak knife, reached around the door and stabbed him once in the forearm and once in the hand, the report said.
The man then walked to a neighbor’s house down the street and called the police, according to the report.
The girl gave police a different account of events.
She said when she and her friend returned home that evening the stepfather walked out his bedroom, called her a racial slur and pushed her in the face with an open hand, the report said. They separated and she and her friend went to grab clothes to leave.
At that time, the stepfather attempted to lock the stairway door, but the girls pushed through and left, the report said. She also said he stabbed himself at some point, the report said.
The friend, however, told police the stepdaughter returned to the home and entered his bedroom when the two began to argue. Her stepfather attempted to push her out of the bedroom and the girl punched him. They continued fighting before separating, according to the friend.
The two girls went upstairs to get clothes and came back downstairs to find him at the doorway attempting to lock the door, the report said. The friend told police the man and his stepdaughter began fighting again. He eventually left and the daughter locked the door. The friend also said she did not see anyone get stabbed.
Police noticed the man had a puncture wound on his left forearm, as well as a puncture wound on his left hand.
He was treated by LifeCare on scene and refused to be transported to the hospital. His stepdaughter was found to have a sprained wrist, and was treated by LifeCare on scene and transported to Mercy Hospital for pain in her right hand, according to the report.
Police found a blood trail inside the house and recovered a knife in the kitchen sink, the report said. The Lorain County Detention home was contacted and accepted the daughter into the facility, according to police.
