Fight victim allegedly attacks Elyria police

ELYRIA – A fight about 7:30 p.m. July 31 at Middle Avenue and 10th Street in Elyria resulted in an arrest of a Middle Avenue man.

Mathew Muzika, 31, 930 Middle Ave., Elyria, was charged with felonies of attempted assault on a police officer and intimidation, and was cited for persistent disoderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to the report.

The officers responded to the neighborhood because of a fight complaint. A group of men with shirts off said Muzika was assaulted by three black males, according to the report.

After officers asked that Muzika would speak with them, they saw him being restrained from exiting a house.

Muzika allegedly yelled and screamed threats toward officers, according to the report. After Muzika allegedly tried to punch an officer in the head, two officers wrestled him to the ground and placed him in a prone position, according to the report. Muzika allegedly continued to scream he would kill the police, calling them names, according to the report.

An officer used an ASP baton to control Muzika’s left arm while another officer grabbed his right arm, according to the report. Muzika allegedly tried to kick and buck officers off, according to the report.

More officers hobbled Muzika’s ankles, picked him up and transported him to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.
