Elyria boy accused of using sister as shield during fight with mother

ELYRIA – Police arrested a 17-year-old boy for delinquency by reason of domestic violence after he allegedly hit and pushed his mother and used his four-year-old sister as a human shield.

The incident began about 5:25 p.m. July 31 on the 170 block of Timberlane Drive in Elyria. Police responded to a complaint of the boy allegedly yelling, swearing and throwing dry pasta noodles around the kitchen, according the report.

After police spoke with the boy and his mother, he cleaned up the noodles, and his mother said he could leave the house if he cleaned his room.

At 7:13 p.m., police returned to the home because the mother alleged the boy swore at her, she tried to discipline him by smacking his mouth, but he picked up his four-year-old sister and used her as a shield, according to the report.

The mother alleged she grabbed the boy’s hair, and he pushed and smacked her left forearm, according to the report.

The boy allegedly released the girl when the mother said she was calling police, the report related.

Police saw no redness on the mother’s arm, according to the report, but they arrested the boy and transported him to the Elyria Police Department. Later, the boy was taken to Turning Point, according to the report.
