LORAIN – Guess who’s coming to Lorain from July 31 through Aug. 3?
Journey, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Elvis and the Beatles!
Tribute bands and performers echoing the above artists, along with award-winning national rib vendors serving up some of the best barbecued ribs this side of Texas, will gather for the first-ever Ribs on the River festival sponsored by the Lorain Port Authority.
The Black River Landing is where the meat meets the music.
From 5 to 10 p.m. July 31, rib vendors setting up shop will include Smokin’ Joe’s Hog Wild Barbeque, Aussum Aussie, Mojo’s Rib Shack and the Pigfoot Barbecue Co.
‘We’re not shooting for the moon,’ said Ralph Bruening, Lorain Port Authority’s special events coordinator. ‘We expect 5,000 to 6,000 to attend.’
The Juke Hounds perform their heady blend of blues and rock on stage at 6 p.m. There will be free admission and parking on July 31.
The festival continues from 4-11 p.m. Aug. 1. Admission is $5. Children ages 12 and younger are admitted free with paid adult admission. Red Sun Rising, a rock and alternative band from Cuyahoga Falls, performs at 6 p.m. And at 8 p.m., the AC/DC tribute band, Dirty Deeds, kicks into high gear on stage. Active-duty military get in free with identification.
On Aug. 2, the festival runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $5. Children ages 12 and younger
are free with adult paid admission.
At 2:30 p.m., La Grange, a ZZ Top tribute band, hits the stage. At 5:30 p.m., Joe Vitale Jr., who has played with musicians and bands ranging from Ted Nugent’s Amboy Dukes in the mid-1960s, to Joe Walsh to Crosby, Stills and Nash, performs.
At 8:30 p.m., Escape, a Journey tribute band, takes the stage. Active-duty military free with identification.
The final day for the festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 3. Don ‘Elvis’ Wright performs at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and is free for children ages 12 and younger with adult paid admission.
At 4 p.m., Hard Day’s Night, a Beatles tribute band, performs. Onsite parking is $3.
