Ritenauer’s Run at the Journal Jog
is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Aug. 3 at Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane in Lorain. The annual event raises money for the Mary Lee Tucker Clothe-A-Child program, Newspapers in Education and the scholarship funds of Lorain Mayor Chase Ritenauer. The race has prize money for the fastest runners, but all participants in the 5K race and 3K walk will receive a race T-shirt. They were and printed by Lake Screen Printing Inc., a family-owned business at 1924 Broadway, Lorain. The design features an illustration of the Charles Berry Bascule Bridge, one of the city’s iconic spans over the Black River. There also is a drawing of the Lakeview Park Fountain, with red and white streams spraying out of the center of the fountain and its pool. The design was inspired by Morning Journal President and Publisher Jeff Sudbrook. ‘(Sudbrook) said that (the race) starts from Black River Landing by the bridge and then it goes through Lakeview Park and comes back,’ said Ben Zientarski, co-owner of Lake Screen Printing. ‘That’s why we wanted to include both.” This year’s shirts are gray with graphics in red, white and black. Red letters with black and white accents announce ‘Ritenauer’s Run At The Journal Jog.’ The date and location are listed in white lettering. The back of the shirt, printed in black lettering, includes the logos of race sponsors The Morning Journal, United States Steel Corp., Mercy Medical Center, Lorain National Bank, Republic Services and city of Lorain. The short-sleeved shirt has a crew neck and is 53-47 polyester-cotton blend. Registration costs $15 in advance and $20 on race day for the 5K run; and $15 for the 3K walk. The walk also has a reduced price of $10 for students age 12 and younger.
