Erie County Juvenile Court Judge Robert C. DeLamatre announced that he has filed petitions for and is seeking a fifth term, according to a news release.
The election will take place Nov. 5, 2024, for a six-year term that commences in January 2025.
DeLamatre first was elected in 2000, and voters re-elected him in 2006, 2012 and 2018.
Before becoming judge, DeLamatre practiced law for 14 years and served as an assistant prosecutor for the Erie County and Ottawa County prosecutor’s offices.
DeLamatre also served as an assistant law director for the city of Sandusky and as a magistrate in Erie County Court prior to becoming judge.
In his 23 years on the bench, DeLamatre has been appointed by the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court to serve on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission and is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference, where he currently serves on the Juvenile Law and Procedure Committee, the release said.
He was a past co-chairman of this committee, according to the release.
DeLamatre also has been a frequent presenter for the Ohio Judicial College, where he has educated new and veteran judges in many juvenile justice topics, the release said.
DeLamatre served as president of the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges in 2017, and currently serves on the Board of the Association.
Also, he was appointed as one of two judges on the State’s Reclaim Advisory Committee.
“It is an honor to serve the citizens of Erie County as judge,” DeLamatre said in the release. “I look forward to continuing to provide fair and effective justice for our families and children.”
