Lorain County Domestic Relations Court Judge Frank Janik announced that he has filed for and is seeking a third term, according to a news release.
Janik first was elected in 2012 and voters reelected him in 2018.
The election will take place Nov. 5, 2024, for a six-year term that commences in January 2025.
Before becoming judge, Janik practiced law for 23 years and served as an assistant prosecutor for the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office, had a private law practice in Amherst, served as an Amherst councilperson-at-large and taught law classes at Lorain County Community College.
Currently, he serves as president of the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges.
The Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges promotes the common business interest of the Ohio juvenile court judges and provides leadership for a just and effective juvenile court system throughout Ohio.
In his 11 years on the bench, Janik has been appointed by the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court to serve on the advisory committee on Children and Families and currently serves on the Juvenile Justice Subcommittee, the Family Law Reform Subcommittee, the Juvenile Law and Procedure Committee, the Education Committee for the Ohio Judicial Conference, and the Executive Committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference.
Janik also has been invited by the Supreme Court to assist in teaching newly elected or appointed judges at New Judges Orientation and has been a presenter at judicial seminars hosted by the Ohio Judicial Conference, according to the release.
“I am honored to serve the citizens and specifically the families and children of Lorain County as judge,” Janik said. As a Domestic and Juvenile Court judge, I see children and families that are going through difficult times whether during a divorce, custody case, or delinquency proceeding.
“I will continue to do everything I can to treat the families and children that come before me with fairness, compassion and respect.”
